THE HIGH COURT CONFIRMED IRREVOCABLY IN A STATEMENT THAT LUKOIL COMPANY ROMANIA HAS COMMITTED A BREACH OF THE COMPETITION LAW BY PARTICIPATING IN A CARTEL UNDERSTANDING WITH THE OTHER COMPANIES ACTIVE ON THE FUEL MARKET. THE COURT HAS REDUCED THE FINE BY THE COMPETITION COUNCIL FROM 136,8 MILLION LEI TO 109,5 MILLION LEI.

Thus, the Competition Council has won the processes with all oil companies which have been penalized in 2011 and which have challenged in court the decision of the authority of the competition. “All the six cases have been confirmed by the High Court which represents recognition of the fact that our decisions are correct and thoroughly substantiated, similar to the competition authorities of the other countries.
The European rules of competition shall apply only in Romania by the Competition Council and the courts and even the largest companies are not above the law. It was a complicated and long-lasting procedure, during which our team of experts has deposited its efforts” said Bogdan M. Chiritoiu, the president of the Competition Council.
